Hi everyone,
I'm aware that "everyone" currently only consists of me, myself and I, but I'm hoping that in the future, it will come to include a fair amount of people. It's much more fun writing knowing that you have an audience. Although, as you'll see if you care to read below, I'm not doing this to gain fans or followers. I'm doing this because I need to.
So, why am I writing this blog? The answers lies in this quote by Abraham Maslow:
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.
I'm not sure I can call myself an artist yet, but I do feel the urge to create, whether that be through mediums like drawing, macramé, or photography. Over the years, I've tried different things: macramé, brazilian bracelets, quilling, scrapbooking, knitting, drawing, painting, origami, photography, and perhaps a couple more that don't come to mind right now. I enjoy creating things with my hands. The issue I struggle with is doing something on a regular basis. Once in a blue moon, I'll have some spare time and decide to do something creative. I start a macramé bracelet... and I never finish it. Or I start drawing and I get discouraged because I can't draw the way I want to, the way I see other artists draw so effortlessly. I get frustrated and instead of trying to draw more regularly (i.e. get more practice in), I give up. Until the next blue moon comes...
Therefore, I have created this blog to help motivate me. By posting regularly, I hope to make art a daily activity, something I can't go without. I also want to track my progress. I'd like to see how much I've improved after 6 months, 1 year, 5 years!
And, if the blog attracts other artists in the becoming, I'd like to inspire them to keep believing and to keep creating. Because as artists, you need to create and release your inner artist if you are to be ultimately at peace with yourself :)
